Our partners from Sussex University recently launched the South Asia Low Carbon Platform (SALCP). SALCP is a new knowledge-sharing platform for low carbon energyThe ability to perform work, mainly kinetic, potential, thermal energy, but also in forms of gravitational, sound, elastic and electromagnetic energy. and low carbon development for India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. The aim of SALCP is to disseminate and share information on low carbon energy systems and low carbon development strategies that reduce poverty and tackle climate changeClimate change is a lasting change in weather patterns over long periods of time. It can be a natural phenomena and and has occurred on Earth even before people inhabited it. Quite different is a current situation that is also referred to as climate change, anthropogenic climate change, or ... in these countries. A specific focus of the platform is on South Asian communities and their ways of achieving low carbon development.

The platform provides the following services:

  • Free download of resources on renewable energyRenewable energy is power generated from infinite sources, such as wind or solar power. Conventional energy is generated from finite sources, such as natural gas or fossil oil., other low carbon energy and low carbon development
  • Free upload of own resources by platform users
  • Blogs, chat rooms and a discussion forum to share experience and resources
  • Regular news on low carbon energy and low carbon development

The platform is open to practitioners, researchers, policy-makers, businesses and everyone who is interested in energy and low carbon development in South Asia and can be found within the Eldis Community at http://community.eldis.org/southasia. You can access the full content of the platform after registering as a member. Members are encouraged to contribute to the platform by posting blog items, participating in discussions and uploading their own publications.

The South Asia Low Carbon Platform (SALCP) is being launched this week. SALCP is a new knowledge-sharing platform for low carbon energy and low carbon development for India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. The aim of SALCP is to disseminate and share information on low carbon energy systems and low carbon development strategies that reduce poverty and tackle climateClimate is typically defined as the average weather (or more rigorously a statistical description of the average in terms of the mean and variability) over a period of time, usually 30 years. These quantities are most often surface variables such as temperature, precipitation, and wind. Climate ... change in these countries.
